We love to travel, but travel can get expensive. If you want to travel the world but you don’t think your budget will allow it, there are some alternatives. There are many places in the world which are much cheaper than you would expect. You can travel and live like a rock star, on a fast food budget.
Thailand
Thailand is a well-travelled location for those that are trying to make their travel dollars last as long as possible. Thailand is a beautiful place to visit with a tremendous amount of culture. Thailand has some of the least expensive quality hotels in Southeast Asia. We often stay in five-star hotels for less than $50 a night. It almost boggles the mind. Try and stay in ANY hotel in Los Angeles for less than $50, let alone a 5 star. The food in Thailand is amazing, and the prices are just beyond belief on how inexpensive. If you avoid the tourist traps and look around, you will see why you can live like a king.
Uruguay
Right next door to Brazil and Argentina is Uruguay, with the capital of Montevideo. This is listed as one of the top 10 least expensive places in the world to live. Montevideo is home to nearly half the population of Uruguay. Is a magnificent City with beautiful buildings and mansions on cobblestone streets. There are many things to see and the people are friendly. It is a little more expensive than Southeast Asia, but it is definitely an old world feel.
Philippines
The Philippines is also one of the least expensive places to live in the world. The people are very happy and friendly, and the majority of them speak English which is a definite plus. You can rent an apartment, or even a house, in one of the main cities for less than $500 a month. We ourselves stayed in a hotel in Cebu, the monthly charge was only $250. That included a sink, microwave, refrigerator, and air conditioning. We hired a driver to drive us around for the day, and it cost us less than a lunch would in Los Angeles. You can even hire a maid for less than $100 a month full time. If you love nightlife though, you will also have to put up with incredibly heavy traffic in the larger cities. But it is definitely a location where your money will go further than anywhere else in the world.
Vienna Austria
Vienna is one of the cheapest places to live in Europe. If you want to be closer to the mainstream, then Austria might be the place for you. It has some of the best skiing in the world, as well as art galleries, restaurants, and everything else a European city would boast. This is not going to be as cheap as Southeast Asia again, but it is probably the cheapest you’ll get in a quality city in Europe.
Vietnam
Another Southeast Asian country that is getting more and more popular with visitors and retirees is Vietnam. Hotels and apartments in Vietnam are very inexpensive. You can rent an apartment for less than $400 a month. You can even stay in five-star hotels for $60 or less. You can check such website as Agoda or Airbnb and you will see highly rated places going for less than $20 a night. You don’t have to stay in the big cities either, you can move out to visit the smaller cities and the money will go even further. The average wage in Vietnam is less than $200 a month. So imagine back home in your own country spending a month’s wages in a couple of days, what kind of Lifestyle you can lead.
Whether you’re just traveling temporarily, staying somewhere for a few months, or looking for a new place to live. These locations offer something for everyone. What you might spend for a night on the town back in your home country, so you might be able to live for a month in these locations. Going out to a nightclub, and paying for a VIP room in the states might cost $500; compare that to $50 in the Philippines. If that’s not living like a king I don’t know what it is.
